I spent about an hour and a half on these two images. I see the benefits of this edit over my own. I definitely have tons to learn about photoshop so maybe I just need a refresher on proper color correcting, but I edited those two the way I did because I thought them to be the most accurate representation of the tone of the lights in that store. So what is the "right" thing to do? Color correct for accuracy in matching to the place or for accuracy in the computer? I also naturally tend to resist high contrast because it doesn't seem realistic to me. So that's a good reminder for the future.
I'm not trying to be combative or defensive. I just hear different ideas about the "correct" way to edit from different professors.
Good questions for sure. I tend to seek a white balance in my images that would match not the color of the light in a given situation, but the natural balance my brain achieves in most light situations. Lets talk tomorrow after class, OK? We can hash some of this out (and maybe do so during class, as well).

ReplyDeleteOn this subject, I need to ask you (Shane) some questions tomorrow about my most recent image. I just can't get it right.
