Julian Berman is an up and coming photographer from California whose style is particularly influencing me in my work that I'm making for lighting. I'm attempting to create still lives out of dynamic and living things by using light to flatten and essentially kill, the living qualities of these things. Berman's work has a very distinct use of light in this way so though he's not exactly attempting to reach the same goal but his work is a very useful reference and one could even say that I'm appropriating. That's fine with me, given I'm trying this lighting situation as an experiment and a way to challenge my lighting skills while doing something new.
