Gordon Parks Exhibit
There is currently a Gordon Parks exhibit at the VMFA its going to be there until October 30th. My History of Photography class is going today to see it and hear a lecture from Professor John Edwin Mason. Mason specializes teach African History and History of Photography. Parks' work is very interesting to reflect on in this time in our history. A comparison could be made between the current civil rights movement and the one Mason made photos of in the 60's. Obviously the struggle for equality for people of color always existed between our era and 60's and before. However, similar to the late 60's a country is finally starting to notice injustice or at least can't ignore it. Gordon Parks work can be seen as an influence to many photographers creating work about the current effort for black equality. If any of yall who arent in my class thats going to see the exhibit you should go see it if you get a chance Im personally exited to see it. I hope to be able to pull ideas from the images I see for our current project.
