I personally love much of the content that Vice creates, even the ridiculous revamping of Ancient Aliens in which rapper Action Bronson and his friends are filmed watching the show and commenting on it between many hits of various weed smoking implements. Much of what they create is interesting and humorous in my opinion. I also believe a lot of their content sheds light on many subjects that either would grab that attention or might be documented in media but not in the positive light. However, I can see how some people might have criticisms with how they do things with their content. Both of my parents when to school and worked in the television news field. They have a strong understanding of documentary, story telling type videography. They believe that Vice makes their reporters too important in the stories, they become too much of a character in front of the camera instead of just showing the the story. I've heard some people thing they have become a bit more commodified and commercialized and that the programs they make now might just be in an effort to get and maintain viewer ship. I would argue Vice has always been like that, but that it isnt as new an idea anymore so it isnt as exciting. This story I've linked above though could go either way as far as how you perceive Vice's intention. In one aspect filming and eventually televising a game between North Korean players and American players would serve to bring a lot of viewers and in turn money to Vice. On the other hand it might have been Vice's quirky attempt at possibly narrowing the gap in relations between North Korea and the US. Either way it didnt seemingly help what ever their intention was. But with situations like this in mind I wanted to know how the class felt about the content Vice creates considering we are all creators. I also wanted to know what ya'll thought a media outlet like Vice's role is or should be when it comes to trying to ease foreign relations.
