Artists Post

1) Cornelia Hediger

2) These images are very formally structured, which is what combines them and makes them into a series. The grid aspect for the images adds an interesting element, and there is a strong use of color as a compositional element.

3) Using the grid adds to the concept by creating a structure in the image; one that adds a sense of disconnect and unease to the image as a whole. Things don't match up perfectly from square to square, which contributes to the tone of the work. The colors contribute in the same way in that they are used to create a mood and an atmosphere for the image.

4) These images feature people in domestic settings. People on couches, in kitchens, bedrooms, baththubs, etc. The props and furniture all subscribe to the same visual aesthetic.

5) The visual unity is clearly very important to the overall concept of these images. The props and sets are designed to create a mood of home-y comfort and, yet, unease. The portrayal of the concept relies heavily on the set design the colors in the image.

6) While I've been talking about the artists portrayal of a concept, I'm not 100 percent sure what the concept is. My own interpretation would lead me to say that she is tackling ideas of identity and self, individually and as part of a family. She seems to be doing well with it, she has thought of creative ways to express her confusions and disconnected emotions. I think it's a very impressive endeavor.

2) These are black and white portraits of affluent and impoverished people. The lighting seems to be natural and each individual or family is photographed in their personal environment.

3) These things add to the environment and concept by creating a personal interaction between the viewer and the subject. The addition of the text underneath the images adds to this.

4) Each image simply consists of the subject in their own living space

5) This type of approach really emphasis the importance of the personality of the subject. The images become more than just part of a series, but a representation of an individual. These images speak for themselves, by themselves. They can function without the others, though all of them together makes them stronger.

6) I think he was very successful at conveying his concept. It seems this work is about illustrating the differences between the rich and the poor, and he does that well .
