The subject matter of Frank Relle and Alec Soth foil each other in an interesting way. There is definitely an emphasis on man vs. nature voiced by each of them, but their takes on this theme are approached with different styles, portraying different aspects and feelings that compose the topic. Alec Soth has a stark approach, capturing a sort of diminished pleasure of simply living and watching time pass. To me his work reflects that peace of mind we find when we are by ourselves, and this contentedness is easily enhanced by nature. Frank Relle on the other hand has a more upbeat approach. It is obvious he has a loud sense of color and texture in his work, but the perspective and continuance in his work is bold in itself. I think this style is largely appropriate for rendering New Orleans, and that of the effects of a hurricane.
