Dominic Gagnon is a french-canadian researcher/filmmaker/computer scientist. I first was introduced to his work through a class I took last year where I skype interviewed him. Gagnon's work is mostly made up of videos he compiles off the internet and compiles into his own films. His work recently has dealt with the sort of anti-government, apocalyptic craze that he found as a common theme in youtube webcam posts. Two of his films, Pieces and love all to Hell and Rip in Pieces America are both comprised of collected youtube videos of men an women talking about the end times and other such nonsense. Each of these films is comprised entirely of male videos or the other female. I am drawn to his work for his style and subject matter and also his techniques. I am interested in the use of these uncensored web videos to prove another point as he does. Also, I am particularly interested in how he finds the videos. He creates programs that are programmed to download "flagged" youtube content immediately that is flagged for particular key words, but the logistics of that I do not fully understand.
