Joel Sternfeld is mostly known for his work in color photography on the documentary of American life. He is also known for aiding the movement of making color photography more and more acceptable as a respectful medium. His most famous project is called American Prospects where he investigates human involvement of landscapes in the United States. Another project titled On This Site, he photographed violence in America of sites of recent tragedies. In 2012, Forbes came out with an article saying that his most iconic photograph, inserted below, was a complete false scene of concern because the firefighter in the photo had set this fire as a training exercise and was waiting for the house to completely go up in flames. I think this involves the question that we delved into last class about constantly questioning the truth and everything you are told, especially in photography.
