James Quinly - Weekly Artist Post

Rafael Rozendaal.

He's an artist that deals primarily with art pieces hosted online ~~ art websites ~~. I'll link some to look at, but I can't post pictures because they are usually interactive. I really dig his stuff (read: I think the work he makes is important and stimulating for reasons other than the aesthetic value) because he approaches art making in a universal, interactive manner. I guess you can make the argument that all art is interactive, though. How is a Van Gogh not interactive? It soooooo is. Rozendaal's work is incredibly simple most of the time which I appreciate. It's hard not to feel some sort of connection between these environment he is making and yourself, the user. Something I find increasingly important in my adult life is minimizing the perceived void between real life and the Internet. I think that people place a large, unnecessary (I have never before spelled that word right on the first try until right now) amount of distinction between their normal lives and any representation they have on the internet. I think that the web is as human as eating or sleeping. Rafael's work I think helps to remove some of the distance between the two, which I greatly value. Check it ooooout!!!!!

P.S. He sells his websites for ~15k, in which case the only sign of ownership is he places your name as a comment in the source code for the site. A contract is signed whenever he sells a site stating that he will continue to host it and it will always remain free and public.
