Hannah Nees - Weekly Artist Post - Michael Wolf

Michael Wolf is a German photographer who lives and works in Hong Kong and Paris. He started his career as a photojournalist working for the German magazine, Stern. Wolf won a first prize for his photographs depicting several different types of factory workers titled, China: Factory of the World. In 2003, he changed his work from photojournalism to fine art photography, because of his lack of interest in what he was doing at the time.

My personal favorite photographs of his are from the series, Architecture in Density, taken in Hong Kong, and Transparent City, taken in Chicago. These projects are done using the Google street view website. He has received a lot of criticism relating to whether or not the photographs he takes should be considered his own. I feel that his images from these two projects are compelling, because of how abstract he makes buildings look. Even though architecture is basically straight up and down simplicity, he makes buildings around the world seem a lot smaller and more intriguing than they actually are.
