Taylor Stevenson: Philip Lorca DiCorcia

This week I chose to look at Philip Lorca DiCorcia I was interested in the image we saw of his in class with the amish man. I think his portrait work is beautiful especially in his heads series. This series involves DiCorcia rigged with a powerful strobe by radio signal and would capture unknowing pedestrians in a flash of light from over 20 feet away. I find it interesting that the images in this series were taken in broad daylight but the images end up having this solid black background and the figures end up having this cool tone to them and the figure also has a this haloed affect which makes it look like DiCorcia had little distance between him and the subject. I appreciate these images because they offer very little information because of the blackened background we aren't getting much information but the somberness of the figures face and there posture it creates a interesting dialect because they aren't noticing that they are being photographed.
