Errol Morris is Awesome

  1. 2 - What in art is NOT speculation? I think a lot of intention is revealed in a photograph, even if the intentions are vague or hard (sometimes impossible) to decipher.

    5 - Casual is a good work to describe this. My personal favorite example is the work of Rineke Dijkstra's Beach Portraits. To me, the first thing I see is not a photograph of people or kids, but of social anxiety, awkwardness, and confusion. THEN I see the kids. My final for Digital II last year was based on this idea. I photoshopped out a pyramid from a picture of the Great Pyramids of Giza and had absolutely no idea if it was still a picture of the Great Pyramids. There is actually a lot I'd like to talk about on this topic.

  2. Also, how do photographs not contain any fragments of truth!? Does Guernica not contain elements of truth?
