teddy leinbach-weekly artist post: walter iooss, jr.

Walter Iooss, jr. transformed what it meant to be a sports photographer.  Beginning at a young age, he found beauty in sports that nobody had been able to find prior.  He thought of sports photography as an art form and not simply photo-journalism.  While his images tell a story, they go beyond the preface of the game and explore the human body, the emotions of sport and the beauty of the landscapes.  There are a lot more to sports than it would seem.  The emotions that are felt in sports are some of the most raw emotions an athlete will ever experience.  As an observer, both live at the game and a viewer of sports photography, one can't imagine the different levels of emotion that is built inside an athlete.  Most photographers photograph sports to tell the story of the sport but Walter iooss, jr. photographs sports to tell the story of the athlete.

  1. I really admire his use of perspective. I particularly enjoy the angle of the basketball player... it's as if we were a child looking up to our idol
